How to Perform Fraction Operations
Addition & Subtraction (+ / -)
Both fractions must share a common denominator. Find the LCM of the denominators, convert the fractions to equivalent forms, and add/subtract only the numerators.
Multiplication (×)
Multiply numerator by numerator, and denominator by denominator. Common denominators are not needed: (a/b) × (c/d) = (a × c) / (b × d).
Division (÷)
Multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction (flip numerator and denominator): (a/b) ÷ (c/d) = (a/b) × (d/c).
Simplification (Reduction)
Find the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD) of both parts and divide both numerator and denominator by it until no common factors remain.
